"I'm telling you to let me leave now," Deadlock hissed, "because if I don't, I could hurt you."

Ratchet scoffed. "Heard it before, kid. You haven't done anything to hurt me yet, what makes you think you will all of a sudden?" He paused. "What makes you think I'd believe that?"

The assassin huffed. "That's different. Of course I wouldn't hurt you on purpose, you- I'm not a poacher," he accentuated, "and you saved my life. I would be dead without you, I wouldn't- I'd-" he choked a bit, causing the boar-hybrid to squint at him. After a second, Deadlock caught his breath, letting out a heavy sigh. "I can't have someone else die on me. I care about you too much." He paused. "I'll be back in the morning, I promise," he'd assured, "I just need to go. Just for tonight."

Ratchet squinted at him. "Just for tonight," he repeated back, and Deadlock nodded. Ratchet considered this for a moment, before sighing heavily. "You're a lycanthrope, aren't you."

Deadlock tensed. "How'd you-"

"Kid," Ratchet interrupted, "I look at that moon every night. I know when it's about to be full," he explained. "You wouldn't be so worried about getting out of here just for tonight otherwise."

Deadlock's shoulders slumped, head falling, gaze dropping to the forest's floor. "I don't- I don't want to hurt you."

"Believe it or not," the boar-hybrid scoffed, "I'm not huge on getting hurt either. I just also know that you won't." The two sat in silence for a moment, before Ratchet let out a long, drawn-out sigh. "Go."

Deadlock blinked up at him. "Go?"

"Go," Ratchet said again. "But I expect to see you back here first thing tomorrow morning."

Deadlock chewed his bottom lip, like he had something else he wanted to say, something else he wanted to do, but nothing came. Instead, he simply disappeared into the brush, and Ratchet stared into the slowly darkening sky, alone.
